2009 THE SOUTHALL STORYIN DEVELOPMENT

In collaboration with Kuljit Bhamra, this project looks at the uprisings in Southall in 1979 and it’s lasting effect on minority communities in the UK and Europe. The Southall Story is a vast
project involving arts and community groups in Southall in celebration
of this remarkable town. Starting with the uprisings in 1979, The
Southall Story aims to create a lasting legacy of oral, visual and
written histories. Partners include Phull Images, The South Bank
Centre, The British Library, Progressive Writers Association
(Southall), Southall Black Sisters and other local organisations.
2009 PARDA/THE VEIL

Featuring Shaheen Khan (Rafta, Rafta, Bhaji On The Beach, Spooks, Bend It Like Beckham, Partition), Parda/The Veil is a follow on from ‘The Bride’ performed at The Contact Centre, Manchester. A multimedia production using performance art, kathak dance, live music and film, Parda/The Veil explores the evocative themes of domestic violence. Using the backdrop of immigration laws and the entrapment of ‘no recourse to public funds’, Parda/The Veil, brings to the audience a world of destitution and abandonment that many women face, evoking a Dickensian England.
2009 THE SANDHURST PROJECT

The Sandhurst Project is in partnership with the
Sandhurst Secondary School and the Bracknell Forest Education Centre
Eal & Diversity Team. ‘The Sandhurst Project’ tells the story of
the children of Ghurkha’s recently allowed to settle in the UK. The project’s focus is to generate greater cohesion through the devise of media training culminating in a production of a DVD.
